Class was pretty straightforward. I thought on the of the things that was most interesting was learning that around this time after Constantine is when we are seeing the fall of the house-church physical model, and wealthy landowners are the ones beginning to purchase larger buildings and use those for the church structure. It was also interesting to note that it was the landowner who became responsible for finding the pastor to lead that congregation. It seems as though that is how we’ve maintained with in many denominations in the Western Church. Often times, if a pastor leaves – it is up to the denomination leaders to find and hire the pastor. But what about the congregation? Shouldn’t they dictate the needs and what sorts of things the pastor needs to be gifted in? Shouldn’t the neighborhood in which the building is located in, determine what kind of pastor is able to come and serve? I wonder…
