This week felt pretty much the same as the week before. Except with one major difference…WE SAW THE BABY!!! We went when I was 10 and a half weeks and they told us that the wiggly little worm in my tummy was actually 11 weeks along. So I kinda skipped half a week. And let me tell you, seeing your baby on a screen is MAGICAL. I don’t know how anyone can deny the existence of a good and loving God when you see your baby in there. It was a beautiful moment I was so excited to share with my sweet husband. I think he may have teared up but I was a blubbery mess. The baby was 4.15cm…almost 2 inches! Just to think that in 11 weeks, the baby went from a cellular mass to a moving 2 inch long PERSON that has a heartbeat and everything. NUTS! But this week, my pregnancy no longer was just about me, it became about us.
How big is the baby?
This week, the baby has officially moved into the fetus stage! This means that the further we get along in this week and following, the less and less change we have for complication. 10 weeks is the first big milestone for the baby! Anyway, at 10 weeks, the baby is the size of a cherry! It grew a lot in this last week, because to go from a grape to a cherry is a pretty big gap! Just wait until the next few weeks though – the baby starts to grow exponentially! I read something that said if the baby continued to grow at this rate during the entire pregnancy, I’d be giving birth to a 1.5 ton kid….yeah….no.
Also, this week, my uterus has expanded from the size of a pear to the size of a grapefruit! This would explain why my abdomen constantly feels like it needs to be stretched out too. Coupled with the dislocated rib from last week, stretching out the entire front section of my body has been a daily ritual!
What I’m eating
I am still eating rather plainly, but I am starting to introduce a few more crunchy things into my diet…like the salty plain Lays…those are tasting mmm – good. I am still eating a lot of peanut butter and jelly too. This week though, the thing I’ve been eating like everyday is a blended Orange Juice Naked juice and a bagel with cream cheese from the school coffee shop. They are SO good! I love orange juice and it’s really good for me to drink, but it gives me a fair amount of heartburn. But blended with ice and some vanilla powder, we are GOOD! It’s sweet because it also reminds me of my wonderful sister-in-law who used to bring me these all the time my senior year of college when she worked in the coffee shop. I will say, I think it will be interesting when my appetite returns too!
How I’m feeling
I am still T.I.R.E.D. I think because the baby has been starting to grow a LOT more, I have been tired a LOT more again. And my siatica has returned in full force. If I sit or stand for too long, I want to rip off my left leg at the hip. The doctors call this “round ligament pain” and it’s totally normal, because my hips and pelvis are starting to stretch out to make room for my growing belly area.
After seeing the baby, all this is starting to feel so much more real too, even if I only had like, half a week of week 10. You know what’s weird? I am only like 3 weeks away from being out of the first trimester. And I am really hoping that sometime in the next three weeks, I get some energy and some appetite back. That’d be really nice. And everyone that I’ve talked to says that one day, your energy and appetite just come back after what seems like a seemingly random day…just one day, you wake up and you’re back to normal. I am ready for that day! s
