Being pregnant is fun this week! We actually got to tell our first group of people – Our families! We thought Thanksgiving would be the perfect time to tell our families what we were thankful for! We got to tell Auntie and Grandma in person, because they were celebrating down here with us. We decided we would cook them a themed breakfast. We made them baby sized pancakes and also baby sized cinnamon rolls. They didn’t get really that the breakfast had a theme, so Seth had to tell them. Then we tried to get them to guess and out of nowhere, Grandma goes, “Karen’s pregnant!” We didn’t even get to give them their clue (which you’ll see later). But they guessed and were really excited for us.
For Seth’s parents, we were bummed that we couldn’t be there with them, so we tried to make it as special as possible. We decided to get them a book called “The Gift of Being Grand”, which is about being first time grandparents. We wrote them a special note on the inside about how excited we were to have them embark on this journey with us. Then we also gave them a sweet picture we took to show them. We skyped with them as they opened the presents. Seth’s mom just screamed for a good 15 seconds straight. It was really such a GREAT reaction from both sets of the family! We were happy to finally let the cat out of the bag, so to speak. Here’s a copy of the picture we took:
How big is the baby?
This is the last week for the baby to be in it’s embryonic stage! It’s in the 10th week that the baby moves into the fetus stage, so next week is our first big milestone! This week, the baby is the size of a grape! For Thanksgiving breakfast, I bought some grapes to eat and do a size comparison. We showed grams and auntie what size it was and it felt really weird to show them! But things are progressing along!
Also, this week, my uterus has expanded from the size of a pear to the size of a grapefruit! This would explain why my abdomen constantly feels like it needs to be stretched out too. Coupled with the dislocated rib from last week, stretching out the entire front section of my body has been a daily ritual!
What I’m eating
I am starting to get a bit more variety back into my diet. I actually ate a few veggies this past week and they didn’t taste half bad! I still prefer peanut butter to most things though. I did eat a salad bar at a restaurant and it didn’t taste half bad! But it wasn’t nearly as good as the baked potato my grandma had that I pretty much ate by myself.
Thanksgiving was this week, and I was chowing down on the mashed potatoes and gravy pretty much. I did manage to eat a bit of the turkey, and what I had was good, but it just didn’t take to my tummy well. But I will say, I was quite impressed with my ability to cook it all! I just had to leave the room when we started cleaning out the middle of the turkey…which no one likes really.
How I’m feeling
The evening sickness that I’ve had is still ever present. It pretty much hits every day around 4. And this week, I’ve had to start wearing the bands around lunch time when I am eating too. The funny thing is, the morning time is really when the “morning sickness” doesn’t get to me!
Sleeping still eludes me some nights. I didn’t sleep well the night before Thanksgiving, but a lot of that could have been the fact that we were getting ready to tell our families the next day…and no one sleeps before exciting days. But I am still struggling to make it through the day without a nap. The weekends are the best because I feel like I can relax and sleep a lot.
Other than that, it’s been great to finally tell people about this weird/exciting thing that is happening to me and Sethy!
